Refunds & expiry policy

Last updated 21 July 2026

The short version

A Hadiyah card is spendable in full for twelve months from the date it is activated. Within fourteen days of purchase, an unused card can be refunded in full. After that, or after the recipient has started spending, the card is a gift and is non-refundable.

14-day cooling-off

If you change your mind within fourteen days of buying a card and the recipient has not yet started spending it, we will cancel the card and refund the full amount you paid, to the original payment method.

To request a cooling-off refund, email hello@hadiyahcard.com from the address you used at checkout, with the order reference. Refunds typically clear within five working days once approved.

After 14 days - or once spending has started

Cards that have been partially spent, or that are past the 14-day cooling-off window, are non-refundable. This is normal for gift cards under UK consumer law - a gift card is not a service you can return once delivered.

Cards are not exchangeable for cash and carry no cash value. You cannot merge two balances or transfer balance between cards.

Faulty deductions and disputes

If a deduction was made in error - the wrong amount, a charge you did not make, or a balance that does not add up - tell us within 30 days of the transaction. The balance page lists every transaction with its date, amount, and partner, which is the quickest way to spot anything unexpected.

We investigate with the partner, review the ledger and device records on both sides, and where we find an error we correct the balance and refund or reinstate the difference. Where the records show the charge was correct, the balance stands. Nothing here affects rights you have under consumer law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Expiry

Every card expires 12 months from the date it is activated. The expiry date is printed on the card, shown on the balance page, and repeated in the digital delivery email. We do not charge fees against the balance before expiry - the full amount stays spendable until the expiry date.

We send expiry reminders to the recipient by email at 60, 30, and 7 days before expiry, where we hold an email address. If the recipient has more than a few pounds left, they can spend it in full at any partner in the collection right up to the last day.

Unredeemed balances after expiry

Any balance remaining on a card after its expiry date can no longer be redeemed. Unredeemed balances at expiry are retained by Hadiyah Card as part of general company revenue. We do not hold them as ring-fenced funds and we do not pass them to any charity, government scheme, or unclaimed-property registry.

This is the standard treatment for closed-loop gift cards in the UK - gift-card balances are not covered by dormant-account legislation or the FSCS. If the outstanding balance on your card exceeds £100 and you notice the card only shortly before or after expiry, contact us and we will consider the circumstances on a case-by-case basis; we are not obliged to reinstate an expired balance, but we do sometimes make an exception where it is fair to do so.

Cards are not deposits, e-money, or a regulated financial product. Buying a card is not a savings decision.

Lost, stolen, or damaged cards

Cards are like cash - anyone holding the code can spend it. If a card is lost or stolen, contact us as soon as you can. We can freeze the code and, at our discretion, reissue a digital replacement for the balance remaining at the time it was reported. We cannot reimburse balance that was already spent before the report reached us.

A damaged physical card can be reissued digitally for the balance remaining, on request.

Gift a Meal

Gift a Meal donations - whether added at checkout or made from a recipient's balance - are voluntary charitable contributions. Once made they are non-refundable. See our Sadaqah T&Cs for how the pot is held and paid out.
